I may be incorrect on the above characteristics. There are many little caterpillar-like projections, that look like seeds. There are little hairs on the branches and the leaves are smooth. This plant was not here previous years, it appeared about 6 weeks ago and has grown rapidly. No changes or alterations have been made to the flower bed except for tilling plain grass one year to add a hosta, lilly and globe cedars.

Plant 1 - I thought - may be a maple tree that found a poor home but I’m not convinced.  It does seem to have a ‘trunk’.  It’s about 5 feet high and the leaves are about 4 inches wide.

Plant 2 - has thorns or hairs on the stem and the leaves look almost prickly - picture 2c is great as an example.  It’s about 3′ tall.

ANSWER FROM WWW.WEEDINFO.CA

We cannot make out the identification of Plant # 1 based on the photos. Plant # 2 is a wild lettuce species, most likely prickly lettuce.
